Let me first welcome you to our website and thank you for your interest in our martial arts. My name is Tony Torre and I’m the founder of the Miami Arnis Group. Details below will inform you about our group, it’s instructors and it’s members.

Miami Arnis Group

Miami Arnis Group is the banner under which I teach. The name became formalized in 2004 along with the creation of this web page. This group is the direct result from the growth of the class I inherited from Guro Bram Frank in the late 90’s. You see, it was never my intention to teach. When my teacher moved away and asked me to teach, I had to step up. It was rough at first, but I would not have changed a thing. Around 2003, my students started to ask for more training time. Our long time home, Miami Beach Martial Arts already busy class schedule made it impossible to increase our class times. It was then I decided to branch out. A journey which found me teaching at several venues.

This group is still in its infancy and continues to grow by leaps and bounds. None of this would be possible, without the encouragement of my teacher Bram Frank, my dear friends Jody & Glen Mehlman, and most of all, my students. Special thanks must also be given to my long time friend and martial artist extroirdinare Jonathan Respeto of Shadowtech Networking who selflessly gave his time in the creation of our original web page.

Guro Tony Torre

My martial arts journey began in 1978 with the study of Judo and Karate at the Y.M.C.A. and later continued with wrestling (high school) and boxing. Around 1989, was my introduction to the Filipino Martial Arts under the tutelage of Guro Rudy Lams the local I.M.B. Representative. He taught me the arts of J.K.D., Muay Thai, Sayoc Kali & Doce Pares Escrima. Two years later, he closed the doors to his school an event which put me on a quest to find another mentor to further my studies in the Filipino Martial Arts. It was around this time that I met my dear friend and mentor, Guro Bram Frank. Through him, I learned Professor Remy Presas’ Modern Arnis and later Combat Arnis. I currently hold a 5th degree black belt under him and will continue to study under him for life. Along the way, I’ve been very fortunate to meet and train with many other wonderful instructors who have greatly contributed to my understanding of martial art. From 1995 through 2000, I studied J.K.D., Inosanto blend Kali-Silat & Muay Thai under the guidance of Sifu Dwight Woods, earning the status of 3rd rank. Special mention must also be given to Senior U.M.A.A. student, Alison Mc Sweezey for having the patience to coach me through the intricacies of Muay Thai. My boxing mentor, Olympic gold medalist, Coach Bernie Soto. Rounding out my skills to include grappling are my friends and teachers, Renshi Glen Mehlman (Shuri-Goju Ryu & Shinto Yoshin Ryu Ju Jitsu), Coach Isidro Alfonso (Sambo & Freestyle Wrestling) and Sensei Juan Collazo(BJJ). My credentials also include my tenure with Options For Personal Security as chief instructor under tactical training guru Andy Stanford.

Guro Vincent Oller

What can I say about Vince? He’s my long time training partner and one of my dearest friends. A devoted family man, a successful businessman and avid outdoorsman. He’s the owner of Omega Tactical Resources.Your resource for top notch adventure gear. He’s also the consummate martial artist. He holds at least 3 black belts. A black belt in Tae Kwon Do under Master, Jung Nam Lee, a black belt in Shotokan Karate under Sensei Saito, and a Lakan Black Belt in Combat Arnis under Guro Bram Frank. He is also an instructor with Options For Personal Security and an N.R.A. Certified firearms instructor. But thats not all. He’s a training junky. He’s received seminar and/or private classes from such notables as Sensei Erik Paulson (Shooto Champion/Combat Submission Grappling), Guro Cass Magda (Penjak Silat), Sifu Burton Richardson (JKD Unlimited), and Professor Tom Sotis (AMOK). He’s logged in nearly 100 hours with Guro Dan Inosanto and is a 3 time alumni of Master At Arms James Keating’s Riddle Of Steel. He is also a great instructor. Having taught both myself and on ocassion my students his reputation is top notch. He always brings a lot to the table.

Our Training Group

Our students, training brothers and sisters as I like to call them, are a tight knit, highly dedicated group of martial artists. As diverse as humanity itself. Our group is bonded through our common love for training in martial art. We use the traditional belt system used in Modern Arnis. This acts as a basic skills template. Through realistic training, drilling and sparring we further refine those skills. Think of this as your electives. We also use a phase system which allows us to further tailor our training intensity to the abilities and needs of our students. We have found this combination of a friendly training environment along with a solid, well implemented curriculum is extremely effective in producing very skillful practitioners in the shortest time possible.
